Another Paris Jewelry Robbery
Just in time for the New Year, Paris has again fallen victim to a jewelry robbery. The Associated Press is reporting that an armed robber broke into an unnamed jewelry store in south Paris earlier on Tuesday and fled the boutique on a motor scooter with more than $100,000 worth of jewels and watches. He reportedly fired a gun into the air at the boutique, but no one was injured.
The incident, which follows several more dramatic jewelry robberies in the past year, including a multimillion dollar heist at diamond boutique Harry Winston last December, seems to underline a security issue in some of Paris’s top-tier jewelry boutiques. Many of these are world-renowned and known for their cream-of-the-crop collections. But in the end, jewelers may resist installing bolstered security features for fear of scaring customers away and taking away from the luxurious ambiance.
