To borrow briefly from Charles Baudelaire, Paris in August often seems to capture the French poet’s notion of luxe, calme, et volupté– translating roughly to “luxury, calm, and pleasure”. In any case, it’s certainly one of the most relaxed times of the year. With many locals out of town on vacation, the city seems gleefully overrun by foreign tongues, and thanks to a packed program of free or affordable events, boredom is unlikely even on a tight budget.
