Indie Temple La Flèche d’Or Reopens in Paris

Saturday 28 November 2009

Indie music fans in Paris breathed a collective sigh of relief over the summer when they learned that their preferred nightspot, La Flèche d’Or, was only closing for renovations, and not going under for good as rumored. Neighbors irked by the constant stream of noise coming from the popular venue had complained, prompting the owners to install a better sound insulation system. La Flèche d’Or finally re-opened earlier this week, kicking off the fanfare with a lineup featuring Evan Dando, Chris Brokaw and Anoraak. Now is the time to get acquainted or re-acquainted with one of the city’s high temples of indie and experimental music. However, after hearing multiple reports of rude, unfriendly bouncers and inflated drink prices, I’m hoping the owners have touched up more than the insulation system.

New Paris Restaurant Review: La Sidreria

Monday 16 November 2009

Even foodies who know French cuisine well may be unfamiliar with Basque cooking traditions, which offer an eclectic balance between coastal, Meditteranean-style specialties like fresh fish and vegetables and hearty mountain delicacies including nutty cheeses, cured ham and hard ciders. About.com Paris Travel Contributor Aedín Mac Devitt spent a Basque country-style evening at La Sidreria, a new drinking and dining spot in Paris’s party-hard Oberkampf district that features self-service cider straight from the barrel.
