Travel Tip: Paris Bakeries Open in August

If you’ve spent months fantasizing about getting your hands on a sublime, crusty Paris baguette, be forewarned when visiting in August: many of the city’s bakeries, including the cream of the crop, close shop for the summer season. The spectacle of tourists wandering around confused at the sight of boarded-up bakery windows is a common one in the summer. The beach comes to Paris for the summer

FRANCE – Sun, sand and Seine — Paris has created a huge artificial beach along the banks of the river, with sporting activities and a programme of concerts running until August 20.

Can anyone recommend an inexpensive hotel in Paris?

Need a relatively cheap hotel that’s close or by the Eiffel Tower for New Years Eve? We are going on the boat cruise on the Seine River and then walk over to the Eiffel Tower so we will need a hotel within walking distance.
